The Liar and His Lover (korean drama review)

Woah, long time no see folk. It has almost been a year since I wrote about drama review. The Liar and His Lover is the last drama that I did watching.

This drama is based on Japanese manga Kanojo wa Uso o Aishisugiteru by Kotomi Aoki and also Japanese film in 2013 with the title The Liar and His Lover.

This drama played by Lee Hyun Woo (Kang Han Gyeol) and Red Velvet's Joy (Yoon So Rim). Telling about the music industry and love story between a composer and a singer.

Plot
Kang Han Gyeol is a genius composer and a bass player of band Crude Play along with Si Hyun (vocal, Yoon(guitarist), and In Ho(drummer). The band recruited by Choi Jin Hyun under Sole Entertainment label. But then, when listening to their song recording, Han Gyeol realize (though the other not) that the music isn't played by them.

Han Gyeol wants to know who played the bass and found Seo Chan Young (the player) is way far better than him. Han Gyeol then resigns from the band and just be the composer of Crude Play instead under the name K. Chan Young replace his place in Crude Play.

The other (Si Hyun, Yoon, and In Ho) know about their part playing by proxy musicians, but still continuing their debut think about Choi Jin Hyuk's promise that one day they will play with their own.

Some years later, Crude Play becomes a famous and successful band. Choi Jin Hyuk wants to have another band and found So Rim, a girl with a beautiful voice that has a band with her 2 friends (guitarist and drummer).

Not long before Jin Hyuk meet So Rim, Han Gyeol met her (and also know about her beautiful voice) first when composing a song near the river. So Rim accidentally hears him and fall in love at first sight. So Rim is a huge fan of Crude Play and K's music. However, Han Gyeol didn't say he is K but lied that he is just kind of NEET (nor in education, employment, or training).

Back again, Han Gyeol made that song (near the river) after her ex-girlfriend dumped him (Yuna, that also a singer in Sole Entertainment) and has a relationship with Jin Hyuk. So he tells So Rim that he doesn't like the girl that sing. So Rim that afraid Han Gyeol knows that she is a singer didn't tell him right way after Choi Jin Hyuk recruited her and her friends in a band named Mush & Co.

At first, Jin Hyuk wants Han Gyeol to be a producer for Mush & Co, but Han Gyeol refused to deal with the newbie (because he didn't know Mush & Co is So Rim). Chan Young than offered himself (after hear So Rim's voice) and Jin Hyuk accepted.

Then the conflicts start to happen. The love triangle between Seo Chan Young (that actually likes So Rim), Kang Han Gyeol, and So Rim. Friendships and quarrels in Crude Play member. Youngster problems (high school and early 20s. And about being a director of an agency, to make music sell even hurt some people. Also, another problem is revealed about Crude Play use proxy musician. Did they admit it or covered it with another lie?

I like the flow of the story and how the writer wraps it all. Especially, I love the ending, when everyone chooses their own path and other respect also support it.

The soundtrack is really nice, I like Joy's voice. And so many new faces. The only one that I ever saw before just Lee Hyun Woo, the other is new for me, and Si Hyun also the Mush & Co's guitarist quite handsome, haha. But even they're new, their acting is not so bad then.

If I give this drama a score 1 till 10, I give 7,5. Light and entertaining. Suitable for you who likes music and slice of life drama. Happy watching and happy listening the song. Last but not least this my favorite song in this drama. Joy-I'm Okay.
